# Crypto Rally Lifts Tech, While Pharma Slides on Broad Selloff

Bitcoin-linked stocks dominated Monday's market action, with digital-asset plays surging as much as 24% while broader indices turned in a mixed close. The S&P 500 edged up 0.17%, the Nasdaq Composite climbed 0.39%, but the Dow Jones slipped 0.18%—a divergence that underscores the uneven nature of today's gains and the pullback hitting smaller stocks (Russell 2000 down 0.50%).

Forward Industries, Chaince Digital, Bakkt, and a cluster of other blockchain-exposed names led the day's gainers, with eight of the top ten risers all tied to cryptocurrency or digital holdings. That concentration hints at a tactical rotation or positive sentiment shift in a normally volatile corner of the market. Oil stocks also performed well, with integrated energy companies averaging +17.1% across eight holdings—Chevron, ConocoPhillips, and Marathon Petroleum among them—likely riding broader commodity and energy demand signals. Laboratory analytical instruments and finance companies added modest gains, up 7.4% and 7.3% respectively.

The flip side was sharper. Pharmaceuticals and biotech suffered broad-based losses, with Xenon Pharmaceuticals crashing 30.7% and Sionna Therapeutics down 17.0%. The weakness wasn't confined to smaller or riskier names; Cooper Companies, Bausch & Lomb, and Warby Parker all fell as the ophthalmic goods sector dropped 15.8%. Blank-check companies (SPACs) continued their slide, down 20.1% on average, while multi-sector holdings and metals/minerals names also retreated. Tobacco took the heaviest sector hit, with Turning Point Brands tumbling 22.8%.

Five companies are currently flagged with going-concern audit notes, indicating substantial doubt about their ability to continue operating: Entrada Therapeutics, FS KKR Capital, Bain Capital Specialty Finance, New Mountain Finance, and Innovative Industrial Properties. Meanwhile, six firms recently filed their annual 10-Ks, with filing dates spanning September 11–18. Health Scores for these filers ranged widely—from 22.9 (American Battery Technology) to 61.1 (Southern Missouri Bancorp)—underscoring the importance of digging into the full filing, not just the headline.

The market's bifurcation today—strength in tech/crypto and energy, weakness in healthcare and specialty finance—is worth monitoring as a potential shift in investor appetite. Money Checkup's screener can help identify quality and value signals within today's winners and losers alike, filtering for companies with stronger fundamentals even when sentiment is choppy.
